A face lift is a major surgical procedure in which lose skin is removed, leaving a smoother and more youthful appearance. This procedure, also referred to as rhytidectomy, is a semi-permanent option for patients who have lost elasticity, causing wrinkles and sagging.

Who is a Candidate for Face Lift?

Most individuals make great candidates; health, age and expectations are important factors that must be discussed during your consultation at Personique of Austin.

  • Most patients are between 40 and 50
  • Some of our patients, however, are in their 70’s and 80’s
  • Health is a determining factor, more than age

Procedure

  • The common practice is to make an incision behind or in front of the ears, and in some cases is extended to the scalp
  • Incisions are made as conspicuously as possible, where they can be camouflaged
  • Fat is removed from areas of the face
  • Muscle tissue may be reshaped
  • Underlying muscle may be tightened, with or without the skin
  • Excessive skin is removed (as needed)
  • Skin is reshaped around the face (as needed)
  • A facial lift procedure may take between one and three hours.
  • Some procedures are done on an out-patient basis at one of our Austin facilities, while others may require an overnight stay for close observation.

As you undergo surgery, staples are put in place. Upon completion, a protective dressing is applied.

Recover and Down Time

  • Patients may experience black and blue discoloration of the skin for the first few days after surgery
  • Puffiness and swelling of your face and eyes, as well as discomfort, is normal
  • Our office should be contacted if there is fever or extreme discomfort
  • Most patients who’ve had this type of procedure done at Personique in Austin, can return to work within a week or two, depending on how extensiveness of the surgery
  • Patients are encouraged to wait a few weeks before exercising
  • Depending on the types of surgery performed, changes can usually be visible between 2 and 3 weeks
  • Best results will be visible within 2 to 3 months
