While cosmetic surgery is often associated with women, more men than ever before are opting to refine their bodies with the help of a plastic surgeon. While there are many procedures that are popular with both men and women, there are a few procedures that are becoming more and more likely to be performed on a male patient. Here are eight procedures that are very popular with men.

Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty, or eyelid rejuvenation, is the most requested procedure by American men according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. The removal of excess skin on the upper eyelids goes a long way to making a person look younger, and it oftentimes can improve vision as well. The scarring from the procedure is pretty minimal, and it is often performed on an outpatient basis.

Liposuction

Liposuction is a procedure the removes the excess fat deposits from the body, and men are having it performed on their abdomen and flanks which gives them a new and slimmer looking contour. This procedure is definitely more invasive than the blepharoplasty, however, and most patients are required to limit activities for at least two weeks afterward.

Lower Rhytidectomy

A lower rhytidectomy, or neck lift, is used to get rid of the excess skin that is usually referred to as a “turkey neck.” This procedure can give a man back his strong jawline and also get rid of his double chin. Post procedure, the patient has to avoid moving the head too much, and the recovery time can last up to four weeks.

Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia refers to a male breast reduction surgery. Generally, an imbalance of hormones causes the man to grow breasts, and this procedure to remove them is one of the fastest growing procedures in the cosmetic surgery industry. Recovery from this procedure is quite extensive and can last up to six months.

Botox

In 2017, nearly half a million Botox treatments were given to men. Botox is a temporary fix for fine lines and wrinkles like crow’s feet. It is a simple in-office procedure that has immediate effects. In addition to easing the look of aging, it can also be used to combat migraines, excessive perspiration, and facial tics.

Rhinoplasty

A nose job, or rhinoplasty, can be performed for purely cosmetic purposes or to address breathing problems due to a broken nose. The surgeon can change the size of the nose or change the shape by removing bumps. Recovery is just a few weeks, but it can take up to a year for the shape to fully set.

Hair Transplant

With more than 50 million American men suffering from male pattern baldness, it is no wonder that hair transplant procedures rank high on the list of requested cosmetic procedures. There are two main techniques for transplanting hair, one involves transplanting individual hairs, and one involves transplanting strips of hair. The process of transplanting strips of hair is usually preferred because of the natural-looking results, but it also comes with a longer recuperation time.

Otoplasty

Otoplasty, or ear surgery, is a procedure that is used to improve the shape or the position of the ears. It is often used to correct ears that have been damaged by an injury. Post-procedure the patient is not allowed to sleep on their side for up to six weeks.
