Thigh Lift

The thighs are a very common trouble spot, especially for women. Genetics, aging, and weight loss can all contribute to the accumulation of fatty deposits and loose sagging skin in this region. In mild cases, liposuction alone may be all that is needed to address excess fat in this area. However, liposuction can do little to correct skin laxity. If there is a significant amount of sagging skin, then thigh lift surgery will be the most effective solution.

Our surgeons strive to deliver some of the best thigh lift results in Austin, TX while always practicing patient safety. Below, we’ve included our guide to the procedure, but if you’d like to schedule a consultation, please contact us today.

Thigh lift surgery is a body contouring procedure performed at our Austin clinic to reshape the upper legs by tightening sagging skin around the thighs. Thigh lift surgery is a great procedure for individuals who have lost a significant amount of weight, and now have leftover, loose skin in the thighs and buttocks region.

At Personique®, our plastic surgeons perform several different types of thigh lift procedures, including

  • Inner Thigh Lift
  • Bilateral Thigh Lift
  • Medial Thigh Lift

These different techniques target excess skin and fatty tissues in separate areas of the thigh and involve different incision patterns as well. The medial thigh lift, for instance, involves incisions in the groin fold. This procedure is sufficient when the patient has excess skin and fat that is localized to the upper thigh or upper medial thigh.

In patients who have had massive weight loss, however, a vertical incision along the inner thigh will likely produce greater improvement. This technique may be appropriate for a post-bariatric surgery patient for instance, who may have a large amount of loose skin extending down the inner thigh to the knee. In this procedure, the resultant scar is more visible than the horizontal excision in the bikini area. However, the tradeoff of removing more skin and getting a better mid and lower thigh contour is often worth it for the patient with extreme amounts of loose skin.

Without actually being examined by a board-certified plastic surgeon, it is difficult to determine exactly which type of thigh lift or saddle lift procedure would best suit your individual needs.

Some of the benefits that come from a Thigh Lift are:

  • Firmer thigh appearance
  • Gives you smoother thighs
  • Improves self-confidence
  • Lessens the dimpled, cellulite look
  • Reduces rashes, chafing, and skin infections
  • Removes excess skin and fat

The first step in getting a Thigh Lift in Austin is to contact our office and schedule your consultation. One of our expert, board-certified plastic surgeons will be right there with you to answer any questions you may have about the surgery, listen to your aesthetic goals, and examine your thighs. You will also be asked about your medical history, during which, you should be as open and honest as possible to help prevent any potential risks. At the end of your consultation, your surgeon will have crafted a surgical plan just for you. If you agree with the plan, then you will schedule a surgery date with our Patient Coordinator, who will also provide you with any pre-operative instructions that you will need to follow.

When you come in for your Thigh Lift Surgery in Austin, TX, your procedure will begin with an anesthetic being administered to increase your comfort, which can include intravenous sedation or general anesthesia. This will be decided upon during your consultation.

Once the anesthesia takes effect, your surgeon will make incision patterns based on the area or areas to be treated, the degree of correction, and patient and surgeon preference. Depending on what has been discussed, these incisions will be made in your inner thigh, outer thigh, or both.

Inner thigh lift incision:

When an inner thigh lift is performed, the incisions are made in the groin area and extend downward, wrapping around the back of the thigh. Excess skin is removed down to the knee all the “inseam”.

Some of our patients may require only a minimal incision inner thigh lift, which involves an incision made in the groin area.

Outer thigh lift incision:

Another technique often utilized during a thigh lift is focusing on the outer thigh by Improving its contours by making an incision that extends from the groin near the hip and continues across the back.

If additional methods are needed, an advanced technique allows the incisions to be placed in strategic locations that can be hidden by most types of clothing and swimsuits.

Once the incisions have been made and the excess skin is removed, your surgeon will make deep sutures within your underlying tissues to help form and support these newly shaped contours. In addition to the sutures, skin adhesive tape or clips can be used to keep your incisions closed.

Thigh Lift Recovery

Your thighs will be wrapped in bandages and a special compression garment. There will also be small drainage tubes placed under your skin to help drain fluid as you heal. You should have someone ready to pick you up from the hospital as you will be sore and on pain medication. You should take the next few days to rest and relax as there will be swelling and bruising that makes walking uncomfortable. You should still do your best to walk around to keep circulation moving, but there’s no need to strain yourself, as your incisions are still healing.

After a week or two, you will be asked to return for a check-up so your doctor can monitor your healing process. During this visit, the tubes and stitches should be removed, and your bandages will be removed or changed. You will be asked to continue to wear your compression garments for the next few weeks. Avoid stretching or scratching your thighs since they are still healing.

At about a month or two following your procedure, you will be able to return to most activities. You will still experience some swelling, so we highly recommend easing into more vigorous activities.

The cost of a Thigh Lift in Austin will vary on several factors and is best determined by the plastic surgeon during your consultation. They will see what your needs are, evaluate your legs, and create a surgical plan for you. After you and the doctor agree with the plan, our Patient Coordinator can provide you with a cost breakdown so you know what is happening every step of the way.
